The Basics

With its prime downtown location, Petco Park is easy to visit during your time in San Diego. Several sightseeing tours provide views of the stadium, including waterfront Segway tours, independent GoCar tours, and panoramic city tours. To go to a baseball game, you can purchase tickets on the official Padres’ website. Or book a guided stadium tour to see the dugout, press box, and other places that are usually off-limits to the public.

Had a blast touring the Park. Our guide Brian, was very knowledgeable. You get to see many cool aspects of the park that you most likely don't know existed.

Behind-the-Scenes at Petco Park Tour
I’ve been to Petco Park several times so I loved seeing things I’ve never heard of. I took my sister on this tour as she has never been to Petco Park. We had an awesome sister day! The tour guide Brian was very knowledgeable.

Behind-the-Scenes at Petco Park Tour
Great tour of the park, was able to see the broadcasting booth but not the locker room since there was a game later in the day. Had to walk up and down the stairs; could not use the elevators probably because of COVID. There was a gentleman on the tour who had a disability in walking and was hard for him.

Behind-the-Scenes at Petco Park Tour
My son is a huge baseball fan and for him to have the opportunity to experience and see the behind the scenes at Petco Park was a dream come true for him. The only thing missing was seeing the players themselves but they were at an away game: Petco park is definitely a beautiful stadium and I would love to come back and actually see a game here. I would have loved to have seen the dugout and locker room, but maybe there were rules against this. Not sure. Overall, a nice experience.

Jim ROCKS!!!

Behind-the-Scenes at Petco Park Tour
Jim was awesome! He is very knowledgeable, and our family learned a lot about San Diego Padres baseball. The press box and luxury suites were amazing. We went on a tour to Coors field, and got to see the visitors locker room & dugout. So we were hoping to see those at Petco. But other than that, it was a very cool experience. We will definitely be back soon.

Behind-the-Scenes at Petco Park Tour
The whole thing was great! My 15 year old son & I took the tour and thought it was awesome! Our tour guide was Joe (I believe), who had retired from the Navy. He was super knowledgeable and engaged all of us in conversation.

When to Get There

The Major League Baseball season runs from roughly early April to early October, followed by the postseason, which extends through October. The Park at the Park opens 2.5 hours before game time via the Gaslamp and East Village gates; all other entries open 90 minutes before game time. Guided tours usually take place daily except on game days and other select dates.

Park at the Park

If you’d rather sprawl on the grass during a game instead of sitting with the masses in the stadium, head to Park at the Park, a 2.7-acre (1.1-hectare) green space. It’s inside the ballpark gates but outside the outfield, providing a more relaxing experience and partial views of the game plus all the action on an enormous screen. You still need a game ticket, but you can bring in food if it’s wrapped. This is a great option for families!
