Tackle Zurich like a pro with our first timer–friendly recommendations.
Located in the residential area of Zürichberg, the zoo is not in the city center but is just a short drive away in the eastern hills. Admission can be purchased online so you don’t have to wait in the ticket queue. Once inside, discover the variety of animals in habitats such as mountainous cloud forest, tropical rainforest, desert, highlands, and wetlands. Animals include elephants, camels, koalas, yaks, wallabies, lemurs, tortoises, parrots, monkeys, and capybaras.
*There is a farm-style area where kids and adults can feed and pet domesticated animals. *Restaurants, food kiosks, picnic spots, and playgrounds are available. *Most paths through the zoo are suitable for wheelchairs and strollers; a handful of wheelchairs are available to rent. *For those interested in animal conservation, look for exhibits on conservation and biodiversity around the grounds.
From the city center, tram line 6 stops at the Zoo station. If you’re driving, limited metered parking is available.
The zoo is open daily morning to evening, with shorter hours from November to February; the Masoala Rainforest opens an hour later than the rest of the zoo.
